KORTEGASTs HOKITIKA™
HERITAGE HOP FIRST GROWN IN NZ 1882
In the mid-1860's Kortegast's Brewery operated on the banks of the Hokitika River, brewing porter, ale – and cordials. Brewery principal WCJ Kortegast was quite an entrepreneur and in the 1880's also established his own hop gardens which in the 136 years since have quietly survived growing in the wild.
An aromatic variety with low alpha, the hops were analysed by HortResearch, who reported they were of European origin, but with no variety matching their type within the current gene pool.
We have made a beer from the dried hop cones and we will add our perceptions as soon as it is ready to drink.
